न होतत् संयुगे कर्तुमपि शक्तः सुरेश्वर: (ध्रुवं धनंजय प्रीतस्त्वयि शक्र: पुरार्दन ।) सुरासुरैरवध्यं हि पुरमेतत् खगं महत्
na hotat saṁyuge kartum api śaktaḥ sureśvaraḥ (dhruvaṁ dhanaṁjaya prītas tvayi śakraḥ purārdana |) surāsurair avadhyaṁ hi puram etat khagaṁ mahat
യുദ്ധത്തിൽ അതു ചെയ്യാൻ ദേവേശ്വരനും ശേഷിയില്ല. നിശ്ചയമായും, ഹേ ധനഞ്ജയ, ഹേ പുരാർദന, ശക്രൻ നിന്നിൽ പ്രസന്നനാണ്; കാരണം ഈ മഹത്തായ ആകാശചര നഗരമോ ദേവർക്കും അസുരർക്കും അവധ്യമാകുന്നു.
अजुन उवाच
The verse highlights that extraordinary tasks in dharmic struggle require more than raw strength: they depend on rightful alignment, divine support, and the unique fitness of the chosen agent. Even a god’s power may be ineffective where a specific destiny and merit designate a particular hero.
Arjuna is being told that a certain feat in battle is beyond even the lord of the gods, and that Indra is certainly pleased with him. The speaker emphasizes the formidable nature of a great ‘flying city’—a fortress said to be invulnerable to both gods and demons—thereby magnifying the challenge and Arjuna’s exceptional role.
