Ṛśyaśṛṅgopākhyāna-praveśaḥ — Lomāśa narrates the origins of Ṛśyaśṛṅga and the Anga drought (ऋश्यशृङ्गोपाख्यान-प्रवेशः)

तपसो य: प्रभावेण वर्षयामास वासवम्‌ । अनावृष्ट्यां भयाद्‌ यस्य ववर्ष बलवृत्रहा,यहीं कश्यपगोत्रीय महात्मा विभाण्डकका “पुण्य” नामक आश्रम है। इन्हींके तपस्वी एवं जितेन्द्रिय पुत्र महात्मा ऋष्यशंग हैं, जिन्होंने अपनी तपस्याके प्रभावसे इन्द्रद्वारा वर्षा करवायी थी। उन दिनों देशमें घोर अनावृष्टि फैल रही थी, वैसे समयमें ऋष्यशृंग मुनिके भयसे बल और वृत्रासुरके विनाशक देवराज इन्द्रने उस देशमें वर्षा की थी

tapaso yaḥ prabhāveṇa varṣayāmāsa vāsavam | anāvṛṣṭyāṁ bhayād yasya vavarṣa balavṛtrahā ||

ആരുടെ തപസ്സിന്റെ പ്രഭാവത്താൽ വാസവൻ (ഇന്ദ്രൻ) മഴ പെയ്യിക്കേണ്ടിവന്നുവോ—ഭീകര അനാവൃഷ്ടിക്കാലത്ത് ആ മുനിയുടെ ഭയത്താൽ ബല-വൃത്രസംഹാരകനായ ഇന്ദ്രൻ ദേശത്ത് മഴ പെയ്തു.
