शृणु राजन् स्थिरो भूत्वा संग्रामं शंसतो मम । संजयने कहा--राजन्! जहाँ हाथी, घोड़े और मनुष्योंके शरीरोंका महान् संहार हुआ था, उस संग्रामका मैं वर्णन करता हूँ; आप सुस्थिर होकर सुनिये

സഞ്ജയൻ പറഞ്ഞു—രാജാവേ, ധൈര്യത്തോടെ സ്ഥിരചിത്തനായി കേൾക്കുക. ആനകളുടെയും കുതിരകളുടെയും മനുഷ്യരുടെയും മഹാസംഹാരം നടന്ന ആ യുദ്ധത്തെ ഞാൻ വിവരിക്കുന്നു; സമാധാനത്തോടെ എന്റെ വിവരണം ശ്രവിക്കൂ.
