हतशिष्टैनुपैश्चान्यै्नानादेशसमागतै: । रक्षिभिश्व महात्मानं रक्ष्यमाणं समन्ततः,नाना देशोंसे आये हुए नरेश, जो मरनेसे बच गये थे, रक्षक बनकर चारों ओरसे महात्मा भीष्मकी रक्षा करते थे
hataśiṣṭair nṛpaiś cānyair nānādeśasamāgataiḥ | rakṣibhiś ca mahātmānaṃ rakṣyamāṇaṃ samantataḥ ||
വൈശമ്പായനൻ പറഞ്ഞു—സംഹാരത്തിൽ നിന്ന് ശേഷിച്ചവരും വിവിധ ദേശങ്ങളിൽ നിന്ന് വന്ന മറ്റു രാജാക്കളും കാവലാളുകളായി നിന്നു, മഹാത്മാവായ ഭീഷ്മനെ ചുറ്റുമെല്ലാം സംരക്ഷിച്ചു കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു।
