वृथादारान् न गच्छन्ति वृथामांसं न भुञ्जते । दीप्तमन्निं जुह्बते च गुरूणां वचने स्थिता:
vṛthādārān na gacchanti vṛthāmāṁsaṁ na bhuñjate | dīptam agniṁ juhvate ca gurūṇāṁ vacane sthitāḥ ||
ഭീഷ്മൻ പറഞ്ഞു—നിയമാനുസൃത വിവാഹത്തിന് പുറത്തുള്ള സ്ത്രീകളുമായി അവർ സമാഗമിക്കുകയില്ല; വ്യർത്ഥമെന്ന് കരുതി മാംസം ഭക്ഷിക്കുകയുമില്ല. ജ്വലിക്കുന്ന പവിത്രാഗ്നിയിൽ ആഹുതി അർപ്പിക്കുകയും ഗുരുക്കന്മാരുടെ കല്പനയിൽ അചഞ്ചലരായി നിലകൊള്ളുകയും ചെയ്യുന്നു.
