Śama-prāptiḥ — Gautamī–Lubdhaka–Pannaga–Mṛtyu–Kāla-saṃvāda

Restraint through the Analysis of Karma and Time

लुब्धक उवाच हत्वा लाभ: श्रेय एवाव्यय: स्या- ल्लभ्यो लाभ्य: स्याद्‌ बलिभ्य: प्रशस्त: । कालाल्लाभो यस्तु सत्यो भवेत श्रेयोलाभ: कुत्सिते5स्मिन्न ते स्‍्थात्‌,व्याधने कहा--देवि! इस सर्पको मार डालनेसे जो बहुतोंका भला होगा, यही अक्षय लाभ है। बलवानोंसे बलपूर्वक लाभ उठाना ही उत्तम लाभ है। कालसे जो लाभ होता है वही सच्चा लाभ है। इस नीच सर्पके जीवित रहनेसे तुम्हें कोई श्रेय नहीं मिल सकता

lubdhaka uvāca | hatvā lābhaḥ śreya evāvyayaḥ syāl labhyo lābhyaḥ syād balibhyaḥ praśastaḥ | kālāl lābho yas tu satyo bhavet śreyolābhaḥ kutsite 'sminn te sthāt ||

വേട്ടക്കാരൻ പറഞ്ഞു—ദേവീ! ഈ സർപ്പത്തെ കൊന്നാൽ അനേകരുടെ ഹിതം സംഭവിക്കും; അതുതന്നെ അക്ഷയലാഭം, ശാശ്വത ശ്രേയസ്. ബലവാന്മാരിൽ നിന്ന് ബലപ്രയോഗത്തോടെ ലാഭം നേടുന്നതാണ് പ്രശംസിക്കപ്പെടുന്ന ശ്രേഷ്ഠലാഭം. കാലത്തിൽ നിന്ന് (വിധിയിൽ നിന്ന്) ലഭിക്കുന്ന ലാഭമേ സത്യലാഭം. ഈ നീച സർപ്പം ജീവിച്ചിരിക്കുമ്പോൾ നിനക്ക് യാതൊരു ശ്രേയസ്സും ഉണ്ടാകില്ല।
