ഉത്തര ഭാഗം ലിംഗപുരാണത്തിന്റെ രണ്ടാം വിഭാഗമാണ്. ഇവിടെ മോക്ഷമാർഗം, യോഗസാധന, കൂടാതെ ശ്രീശിവന്റെ ‘മഹാമഹിമ’ ഭക്തിപൂർവ്വം വിശദമായി പ്രതിപാദിക്കുന്നു. ജീവബന്ധനത്തിന് കാരണമായ കർമ്മം, വാസന, അജ്ഞാനം എന്നിവയും, അവയിൽ നിന്ന് വിമോചനത്തിനുള്ള മാർഗങ്ങളും പറഞ്ഞ്, ശിവാനുഗ്രഹം തന്നെയാണ് പരമകാരണമെന്ന് സ്ഥാപിക്കുന്നു. യോഗത്തിന്റെ അംശങ്ങൾ—യമം, നിയമം, ആസനം, പ്രാണായാമം, പ്രത്യാഹാരം, ധാരണ, ധ്യാനം, സമാധി—ശിവസ്മരണയോടും ഭക്തിയോടും ചേർത്ത് ഉപദേശിക്കുന്നു. ലിംഗോപാസന, മന്ത്രജപം, വ്രതം, തപസ്സ് എന്നിവയെ വെറും ബാഹ്യകർമ്മങ്ങളായി കാണാതെ, അന്തഃകരണശുദ്ധിയിലേക്കും ആത്മജ്ഞാനത്തിലേക്കും നയിക്കുന്ന সাধനകളായി ഉയർത്തിക്കാട്ടുന്നു. ഈ ഭാഗത്തിൽ ശിവൻ പരബ്രഹ്മസ്വരൂപൻ—നിർഗുണനും സഗുണനും—ആണെന്ന് വ്യക്തമാക്കുന്നു. സൃഷ്ടി-സ്ഥിതി-ലയങ്ങളുടെ അധിഷ്ഠാതാവായി, സർവ്വവ്യാപിയായി, കരുണാസാഗരനായി, ഭക്തവത്സലനായി അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ മഹിമ വർണ്ണിക്കുന്നത് साधകന്റെ ഹൃദയത്തിൽ ശ്രദ്ധ, വൈരാഗ്യം, വിവേകം എന്നിവ ഉണർത്തുന്നു. അവസാനം, അഹങ്കാരം, രാഗദ്വേഷങ്ങൾ, അജ്ഞാനം എന്നിവ ക്ഷയിപ്പിച്ച്, ഗുരുപ്രസാദത്തോടെയും ശിവഭക്തിയോടെയും കൂടിയ യോഗസാധനയിൽ സ്ഥിരനായാൽ ജീവൻ ശിവസ്വരൂപത്തിൽ ലയിച്ച് പരമശാന്തിയും മോക്ഷവും പ്രാപിക്കുന്നു എന്നതാണ് ഉത്തര ഭാഗത്തിന്റെ മുഖ്യോപദേശം.
