It functions as a canonical naming (nāma-kīrtana) of specific Lingas; remembering and reciting such names is treated as a devotional act that focuses the pashu (soul) upon Pati (Shiva) through the sacred symbol.
By presenting Shiva through distinct Linga-names, it indicates that the one Pati is approached via many auspicious forms and epithets—one reality expressed through multiple worship-supports (liṅga-rūpa) for the devotee’s contemplation.
Name-recitation and mindful remembrance of the Linga (nāma-smaraṇa with liṅga-bhāvanā), a supportive practice aligned with Pāśupata devotion that loosens pāśa (bondage) by steadying attention on Shiva.
