FAQs

It teaches Dhanurveda knowledge: naming key battle formations (maṇḍala, sarvatobhadra, sūcī) and stating that troop deployment (sainya-kalpanā) across formations is classified in five standard modes.

By cataloging practical military science—formal battlefield arrays and systematic troop organization—the Agni Purana extends beyond theology into applied governance and warfare strategy, reflecting its multi-disciplinary scope.

In the Purāṇic frame, righteous protection of society (dharma-rakṣaṇa) includes competent defense; disciplined, rule-based warfare knowledge supports the king’s duty and reduces harm through orderly strategy rather than chaotic violence.
