Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Tantra","secondary_vidya":"Mantra","practical_application":"Astra-pūjā and nyāsa in Viṣṇu-pūjā: assigning weapon-mantras to the deity’s arms and ritually energizing protective/offensive astras for siddhi and rakṣā.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Viṣṇor Astra-pūjā: Cakra-ādi-āyudha-mantrāṇi nyāsa-kramaḥ","lookup_keywords":["astra-puja","nyasa","Vishnu weapons","hum phat","Sharnga mantra"],"quick_summary":"Worship Hari with iconographic markers (mālā, pīta-vastra, cakra) and then, in sequence, install and worship each divine weapon on the corresponding arms using its mantra for protection and ritual efficacy."}
Weapon Type: Sword (khaḍga), Bow (Śārṅga) with arrow, Pāśa (noose), Aṅkuśa (goad), and implied cakra etc.
Concept: Mantra-śakti is operationalized through nyāsa and pūjā: divine weapons are treated as conscious powers (śaktis) invoked by precise utterance and placement.
Application: Use ordered nyāsa and correct mantra-endings (phaṭ/svāhā/namas) to structure protection, subjugation, and obstacle-removal within Vaiṣṇava-tantric worship.
Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Mantra-astrāṇi Nyāsa and Astra-pūjā for Viṣṇu)
Primary Rasa: adbhuta
Secondary Rasa: vira
Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A multi-armed Viṣṇu in yellow garments and garland, with cakra and other weapons; a priest performs nyāsa, touching each arm while reciting sharp, forceful astra-mantras (hūṃ phaṭ, svāhā).","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala temple mural style, deep earthy reds and greens, Viṣṇu with pīta-vastra and mālā, multiple arms holding cakra, khaḍga, Śārṅga, pāśa, aṅkuśa; priest at side doing nyāsa mudrā; Sanskrit bīja syllables subtly inscribed in aureole; sacred lamp glow.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, Viṣṇu seated/standing with gold-leaf halo, heavy ornamentation, bright yellow silk, weapons emphasized with embossed gold; small priest figure touching the arms in sequence; ‘hūṃ phaṭ’ rendered as decorative calligraphy on borders.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, clean linework and soft shading, instructional composition showing numbered arms and corresponding weapon-mantras; Viṣṇu with cakra etc., priest demonstrating nyāsa points; minimal background with yantra-like geometry.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, courtly palette, detailed textiles, Viṣṇu depicted with luminous aura and multiple arms; a learned officiant recites from palm-leaf; weapons arranged symmetrically; fine calligraphy panels with mantra fragments (namas, svāhā, phaṭ)."}
Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"apotropaic","suggested_raga":"Bhairav","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}
Sandhi Resolution Notes: pītavastrañca → pīta-vastram + ca; cakrādyāḍhyaṃ → cakra-ādi-āḍhyam; tanno → tat + naḥ; kramādbhujeṣu → kramāt + bhujeṣu; svair ebhiḥ → svaiḥ + ebhiḥ (visarga sandhi).
Related Themes: Agni Purāṇa 306 (Pūjā-vidhi: nyāsa, yantra, mantra-sādhana sections)
It teaches astra-pūjā: worshipping Viṣṇu together with his weapon-deities by placing/adorning them on the arms in sequence and reciting their specific command-mantras (e.g., “chinda,” “bandha,” “ākarṣaya,” with hūṃ phaṭ, svāhā).
Alongside theology, it preserves practical liturgical technology—mantra-forms, weapon-deity invocations, and ritual sequencing—showing the Agni Purana’s coverage of pūjā-vidhi and tantricized devotional procedure, not merely mythic narrative.
By honoring Hari and his astras with protective/command mantras, the practitioner seeks purification and safeguarding (rakṣā), removal of obstacles, and alignment with divine order through disciplined, rule-based worship.
