Related Themes: Agni Purana 361 (nāma-nirukti / nighaṇṭu continuation)
This verse imparts lexical-technical knowledge (nighaṇṭu/kośa-vidyā): it lists accepted synonym-sets and usage-notes (including gender-usage ‘triṣu’) for terms meaning earth, intensity, difficulty, vow/resolve, strength, stoutness, and firmness.
Alongside ritual, polity, medicine, and warfare, the Agni Purana also preserves language-tools—synonym lists and semantic mappings—supporting correct interpretation of scripture, mantra, and technical treatises. This verse is a compact lexicographic entry typical of an encyclopedic compendium.
By teaching precise meanings and proper usage, the text supports accurate recitation and understanding of dharma-texts and mantras; such correctness is traditionally held to preserve efficacy (śakti) and reduce interpretive error (doṣa) in religious practice.
