Lord Shiva
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Shakti Form: Pārvatī
Role: teaching
It presents Īśvara (Shiva) as both compassionate and just: restraint and correction are not cruelty but a dharmic means to turn the soul away from deviation and back toward right conduct and liberation.
In Saguna worship, the devotee approaches Shiva as a personal Lord who actively guides, protects, and corrects; this verse highlights that Shiva’s governance includes discipline for those who stray, reinforcing surrender (śaraṇāgati) to the Linga-Lord’s order.
A practical takeaway is daily self-restraint through japa of the Panchakshara mantra (Om Namaḥ Śivāya) with a vow of right conduct, accepting correction as Shiva’s grace and using mantra-japa to return the mind from the ‘wrong path’ to dharma.
