Sarga 75: Bharata and Kausalya—Reproach, Oaths, and Reconciliation
बलिषड्भागमुद्धृत्य नृपस्यारक्षतः प्रजाः।अधर्मो योऽस्य सोऽस्यास्तु यस्यार्थोऽनुमते गतः।।।।
bali-ṣaḍbhāgam uddhṛtya nṛpasyārakṣataḥ prajāḥ |
adharmo yo 'sya sa 'syāstu yasyārtho 'numate gataḥ ||
ຂໍໃຫ້ອະທັມອັນດຽວກັນນັ້ນຕົກແກ່ຜູ້ທີ່ດ້ວຍຄຳອະນຸຍາດຂອງລາວ ພີ່ຊາຍອັນສູງສົ່ງຂອງເຮົາໄປນິລະເທດ—ດັ່ງກະສັດຜູ້ເກັບສ່ວນຫນຶ່ງໃນຫົກ (ṣaḍbhāga) ຕາມທຳນຽມຈາກປະຊາຊົນ ແຕ່ບໍ່ປົກປ້ອງພວກເຂົາ
May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquireunrighteousness in the same way as a king who, having received one sixth of the income as tax from people does not protect them!
Rulership is a moral contract: collecting taxes is justified only when matched by protection of the people; otherwise it becomes adharma.
Bharata uses rājadharma as a standard to condemn the injustice that expelled Rāma.
