वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the Mahābhārata’s emphasis on social and ethical order: prominent men identified by name and lineage ‘follow’ into a collective enterprise, suggesting that personal identity, inherited responsibility, and political choice are intertwined—one’s dharma is often expressed through the alliances one upholds.
A sequence of notable figures is being enumerated as they join or follow in a larger assembly/progression during the Udyoga Parva’s war-preparatory context, marking the gathering of supporters and the consolidation of forces through recognized lineages.
