नारद उवाच
The verse teaches that disciplined charity—especially giving valuable, socially meaningful gifts like silver or a bull at an auspicious time—purifies the giver, removes fear in the present life, and generates merit that ripens as favorable circumstances (such as birth in a good family) in a future life.
Nārada is describing the fruits of specific acts of dāna (gift-giving) connected with particular nakṣatras. Here he states the result of donating silver or a bull when the Āśleṣā nakṣatra is operative: freedom from fear now and attainment of an excellent lineage in a later birth.
