धर्म्यमर्थसमायुक्तमुवाच वचन हितम् | कौसल्ये धर्मतन्त्र॑ त्वां यद् ब्रवीमि निबोध तत्
vaiśampāyana uvāca |
dharmyam arthasamāyuktam uvāca vacanaṁ hitam |
kausalyē dharmatantre tvaṁ yad bravīmi nibodha tat ||
ໄວສັມປາຍະນະ ກ່າວວ່າ: ນາງໄດ້ເວົ້າຖ້ອຍຄໍາອັນຊອບທຳ ສອດຄ່ອງກັບປະໂຫຍດໃນທາງປະຕິບັດ ແລະເປັນປະໂຫຍດຢ່າງແທ້ຈິງ. «ໂອ ກາວສະລະຍາ, ຜູ້ຢຶດຖືວິໄນແຫ່ງທຳມະ, ຈົ່ງຟັງໃຫ້ດີ ແລະເຂົ້າໃຈສິ່ງທີ່ຂ້າພະເຈົ້າຈະກ່າວ.»
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Speech should be both dharmic (morally right) and artha-aligned (practically wise), and it should be offered as hita—genuinely for the listener’s welfare—requiring attentive reception.
The narrator signals that a woman (contextually, an elder giving guidance) addresses Kausalyā with a beneficial instruction framed as dharma- and artha-consistent counsel, preparing the listener to heed what follows.
