FAQs

This verse conveys genealogical knowledge (vaṃśa/putra-saṅkhyā)—a purāṇic cataloging function—by naming Kṛṣṇa’s son Śāmba (from Jāmbavatī) and indicating the vast number of his offspring.

It exemplifies the Purāṇa’s encyclopedic style through systematic dynastic enumeration—recording consorts, notable sons, and numerical traditions—serving as a reference framework for Itihāsa-Purāṇa genealogy.

Remembering divine lineages and the deeds of Bhagavān’s family is treated in Purāṇic tradition as smaraṇa that supports devotion (bhakti) and reinforces dharmic continuity through sacred history.
