FAQs

It specifies a precise preta-bali procedure: offering bali for seven days beneath a karañja tree, oriented to Yama’s direction (south), and notes the two-monthly stage as part of the post-death observance cycle.

It preserves procedural ritual micro-details—place (tree), direction (Yama/south), and duration (seven days; two-month period)—showing the text’s catalog-like coverage of dharma, rites, and calendrical observances alongside many other disciplines.

By performing bali correctly with prescribed direction and timing, the rite is understood to aid the preta’s transitional state and support orderly passage under Yama’s jurisdiction, thereby reducing ritual fault and accruing merit for the performer.
