FAQs

It prescribes a remedial rite combining (1) Śani-related dāna—donating oil on Saturdays in Āśvina—and (2) Śiva-upāsanā—abhisheka of the liṅga with ghee and milk—aimed at roga-prashamana (alleviation of disease).

It blends multiple knowledge-domains in one compact instruction: calendrical timing (Āśvina), graha-related practice (Śanaiścara/Saturn), charity protocols (dāna of oil and food), and temple-ritual procedure (liṅga abhiṣeka), illustrating the Purāṇa’s practical, cross-disciplinary guidance.

The verse links charitable giving and devotional abhiṣeka with purification and the removal of affliction, implying that disease can be mitigated by merit (puṇya) generated through dāna and Śiva-worship, especially when aligned with sacred time and planetary observance.
