caṃdra uvāca | yadi prasanno deveśa varārho yadi vā'pyaham | somanātheti taṃ nāma bhūyādbrahmāvadhi prabho
Candra (Soma, the Moon-god)
Tirtha: Somnātha
Type: kshetra
Listener: Śiva (Devēśa)
Scene: Candra, radiant and cool-hued, stands before a blazing Tejo-liṅga, requesting the boon that the Lord’s name be ‘Somnātha’ until the end of Brahmā’s lifespan; the cosmic scale is hinted by stars and kalpa imagery.
A sacred name bestowed with devotion becomes an enduring vehicle of remembrance and grace, lasting across cosmic time.
Prabhāsa-kṣetra, where Śiva is praised as Somnātha (Somnath).
No explicit rite is prescribed; the verse emphasizes naming/praising Śiva with the holy epithet “Somnātha.”
