ṛṣaya ūcuḥ | kathito vaṃśavistāro bhavatā somasūryayoḥ | manvaṃtarāṇi sarvāṇi sṛṣṭiścaiva pṛthagvidhā
Ṛṣis (Sages)
Listener: Vyāsa
Scene: A circle of sages in a forest hermitage addressing Vyāsa, gesturing respectfully as they summarize what he has already taught (solar/lunar dynasties, manvantaras, creation).
After establishing cosmic history and dynastic order, the text pivots toward applied dharma—tīrtha-māhātmya as a practical path for merit.
No single tīrtha is named yet; the sages are transitioning the discussion toward sacred places in the Arbuda/Prabhāsa sphere.
None; it is a contextual acknowledgment preparing for a request about tīrtha greatness.
