सूत उवाच । इति पृष्टः क्षणं ध्यात्वा प्राह दामोदरो विभुः । वत्स क्षेत्रं प्रवक्ष्यामि यत्र तप्स्यसि तत्तपः । गुप्तक्षेत्रमिति ख्यातं महीसागरसंगमे
sūta uvāca | iti pṛṣṭaḥ kṣaṇaṃ dhyātvā prāha dāmodaro vibhuḥ | vatsa kṣetraṃ pravakṣyāmi yatra tapsyasi tattapaḥ | guptakṣetramiti khyātaṃ mahīsāgarasaṃgame
ಸೂತನು ಹೇಳಿದನು: ಹೀಗೆ ಕೇಳಲ್ಪಟ್ಟಾಗ, ವಿಭುವಾದ ದಾಮೋದರನು ಕ್ಷಣಕಾಲ ಧ್ಯಾನಿಸಿ ಹೇಳಿದನು—‘ವತ್ಸ, ನೀನು ಆ ತಪಸ್ಸನ್ನು ಮಾಡುವ ಕ್ಷೇತ್ರವನ್ನು ನಾನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ. ಭೂಮಿ-ಸಾಗರ ಸಂಗಮದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದು “ಗುಪ್ತಕ್ಷೇತ್ರ” ಎಂದು ಖ್ಯಾತವಾಗಿದೆ.’
