श्रीमार्कण्डेय उवाच । अत्रैवोदाहरन्तीममितिहासं पुरातनम् । कैलासे पृच्छते भक्त्या षण्मुखाय शिवोदितम्

ಶ್ರೀ ಮಾರ್ಕಂಡೇಯರು ಹೇಳಿದರು—ಇಲ್ಲಿಯೇ ನಾನು ಒಂದು ಪುರಾತನ ಪವಿತ್ರ ಇತಿಹಾಸವನ್ನು ಹೇಳುತ್ತೇನೆ; ಕೈಲಾಸದಲ್ಲಿ ಭಕ್ತಿಯಿಂದ ಷಣ್ಮುಖ (ಸ್ಕಂದ) ಕೇಳಿದಾಗ ಶಿವನು ಉಚ್ಚರಿಸಿದದು ಅದು।
