Mārkaṇḍeya
Tirtha: Revā-tīrtha (Narmadā)
Type: kshetra
Listener: māhīpati (king)
Scene: A disciplined 13-day charity observance on a riverbank: a donor offers gold and silver to seated brāhmaṇas; a tally of days symbolized by thirteen lamps or thirteen marks.
Sustained generosity, especially directed toward brāhmaṇas as custodians of ritual and learning, is said to multiply merit in a measured, vow-like cycle.
The verse continues the Puṣkariṇī/Revākhaṇḍa tīrtha context, though the act (dāna to brāhmaṇas) is broadly applicable.
Give gold or silver to brāhmaṇas; if done in a thirteen-day observance, the reward is stated as thirteenfold.
