श्रीमार्कण्डेय उवाच । चित्रोनाम महातेजा इन्द्रस्य दयितः पुरा । तस्य पुत्रो नृपश्रेष्ठ पत्त्रेश्वर इति श्रुतः
śrīmārkaṇḍeya uvāca | citronāma mahātejā indrasya dayitaḥ purā | tasya putro nṛpaśreṣṭha pattreśvara iti śrutaḥ
ಶ್ರೀ ಮಾರ್ಕಂಡೇಯನು ಹೇಳಿದನು— ಪೂರ್ವಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ‘ಚಿತ್ರ’ ಎಂಬ ಮಹಾತೇಜಸ್ವಿ ಇದ್ದನು; ಅವನು ಇಂದ್ರನಿಗೆ ಅತಿಪ್ರಿಯ. ಹೇ ನೃಪಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠನೇ! ಅವನ ಪುತ್ರನು ‘ಪತ್ತ್ರೇಶ್ವರ’ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರಿನಿಂದ ಪ್ರಸಿದ್ಧನೆಂದು ಕೇಳಿಬರುತ್ತದೆ।
