It warns that fruit-seeking religion can slip into ego-centeredness—treating the limited self as supreme—whereas Shaiva teaching directs worship toward Pati (Śiva), the true Lord beyond the ego, for liberation.
By contrasting ego-worship with rightful worship, it supports the Shaiva view that devotion to Saguna Śiva (such as the Śiva-liṅga) disciplines the ego and reorients the mind from ‘I’ and ‘mine’ toward the Lord who grants both worldly order and moksha.
Adopt niṣkāma-bhakti: worship Śiva with mantra-japa (e.g., the pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and offerings with humility, explicitly renouncing fruit-motivation and ego as the doer.
