FAQs

It highlights niyama (restraint) as a dharmic safeguard: even a “wise” being can be checked by higher counsel, showing that spiritual maturity in Shaiva tradition includes humility and self-control aligned with Śiva’s order (ṛta).

Linga-worship emphasizes steadiness and inner discipline; this verse mirrors that principle—when the mind or action becomes forceful or improper, divine forces and sages ‘restrain’ it, guiding the devotee back to regulated devotion (vidhi-bhakti) toward Saguna Śiva.

A practical takeaway is to adopt restraint through daily Panchākṣarī japa (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) with mental control, and to support it with purificatory observances such as Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and sattvic conduct.
