The Slaying of Indrajit
hatam indrajitaṃ dṛṣṭvā śayānaṃ ca raṇakṣitau |
rākṣasānāṃ sahasreṣu na kaścit pratyadṛśyata ||
Indrajith was lying, having fallen on the ground, and not even one of the thousands of Rakshasas was present there to see.
The verse warns against alliances founded on fear or opportunism; without dharma, loyalty dissolves instantly when fortune turns.
Indrajit’s body lies on the battlefield, while the Rākṣasa forces have fled so completely that none remain nearby.
Implicitly, fidelity and courage—virtues absent in the fleeing host, thereby contrasting dharmic steadfastness with adharma’s collapse.
