Crossing the Gaṅgā; Sumantra’s Return; Adoption of Ascetic Signs
तौ तत्र हत्वा चतुरो महामृगान्वराहमृश्यं पृषतं महारुरुम्।आदाय मेध्यं त्वरितं बुभुक्षितौवासाय काले ययतुर्वनस्पतिम्।।2.52.102।।
tau tatra hatvā caturo mahāmṛgān varāham ṛśyaṃ pṛṣataṃ mahārurum | ādāya medhyaṃ tvaritaṃ bubhukṣitau vāsāya kāle yayatur vanaspatim ||
ಅಲ್ಲಿ ಹಸಿದಿದ್ದ ಆ ಇಬ್ಬರು ನಾಲ್ಕು ಮಹಾಮೃಗಗಳನ್ನು—ವರಾಹ, ಋಷ್ಯಮೃಗ, ಪೃಷತ (ಚಿಟ್ಟೆ ಜಿಂಕೆ) ಮತ್ತು ಮಹಾರೂರು—ವಧಿಸಿದರು. ಶುದ್ಧವಾದ ಮಾಂಸವನ್ನು ತ್ವರಿತವಾಗಿ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಂಡು, ಸಂಧ್ಯಾಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ವಾಸಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ಒಂದು ವೃಕ್ಷದ ಬಳಿಗೆ ಹೋದರು.
You have done enough. I shall now leave the chariot and walk into the great forest.
A disciplined life in hardship: dharma in exile includes living simply, taking only what is needed, and maintaining purity/fitness (medhya) even in subsistence.
During their forest travel, Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa procure food and find a place to rest for the night.
Endurance and self-regulation: they adapt to forest conditions without complaint, keeping their journey steady and ordered.
