Bark-Robe Episode and Vasistha’s Admonition
रामं प्रेक्ष्य तु सीताया बध्नन्तं चीरमुत्तमम्।अन्तःपुरगता नार्यो मुमुचुर्वारि नेत्रजम्।।2.37.15।।
rāmaṁ prekṣya tu sītāyā badhnantaṁ cīram uttamam | antaḥpuragatā nāryo mumucur vāri netrajam || 2.37.15 ||
ಸೀತೆಗೆ ಶ್ರೇಷ್ಠ ವಲ್ಕಲವಸ್ತ್ರವನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟುತ್ತಿರುವ ಜ್ವಲಂತ ತೇಜಸ್ವಿ ರಾಮನನ್ನು ಕಂಡ ಅಂತಃಪುರದ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯರು ಕಣ್ಣೀರನ್ನು ಸುರಿಸಿದರು.
Profoundly distressed, they said to Rama glowing with burning lustre O dear, no one has ordered this high-minded Sita to dwell in the forest.
Dharma is not emotionless; righteous action can coexist with human grief. The women’s tears acknowledge the cost of dharma when it demands separation and austerity.
Palace women witness Sita being dressed for exile and are overcome with sorrow.
