The Description of Mandara (Mandaropavarṇanam) in the Mohinī Narrative
tasyāṃ śilāyāṃ rājeṃdra ligaṃ tiṣṭhati kauliśam | daśahasta pramāṇaṃ hi vistarādūrddhvasaṃkhyayā || 18 ||
Narada
Vrata: none
Rasa: {"primary_rasa":"adbhuta","secondary_rasa":"shanta","emotional_journey":"From awe at the sacred rock to reverent focus on the established liṅga and its precise, monumental proportions."}
It highlights a specific tirtha-marker: a famed Śiva-liṅga (Kauliśa) established on a rock, whose extraordinary size underscores its sanctity and the site’s mahatmya.
By drawing attention to a tangible object of worship—the liṅga—this verse supports bhakti through darśana and reverent remembrance of the deity’s presence at a holy place.
It reflects pramāṇa (measurement) used in ritual and temple contexts—practical standards (hasta-based units) applied to sacred icons, aligning with śilpa/ritual precision rather than a separate Vedanga lesson.
