Glory of Prayaga and the Magha Bath at Triveni
सारस्वतौघविध्वंसी सर्वलोकसुखप्रदः । विशालफलदो माघो विशालाया प्रकीर्तितः ॥ २७ ॥
sārasvataughavidhvaṃsī sarvalokasukhapradaḥ | viśālaphalado māgho viśālāyā prakīrtitaḥ || 27 ||
ಮಾಘಮಾಸವು ಸರಸ್ವತಿ ಪ್ರವಾಹದಂತೆ ಉಕ್ಕುವ (ಪಾಪ-ಅವಿದ್ಯಾ) ಓಘಗಳನ್ನು ವಿಧ್ವಂಸಮಾಡಿ, ಸರ್ವಲೋಕಗಳಿಗೆ ಸುಖ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ, ವಿಶಾಲ ಫಲ ನೀಡುತ್ತದೆ; ಆದ್ದರಿಂದ ಅದು ‘ವಿಶಾಲಾ’ ಎಂದು ಪ್ರಖ್ಯಾತ.

It elevates Māgha as a uniquely potent sacred month: it is said to dissolve accumulated negativity (like a “flood” of faults) and yield expansive merit and well-being, hence the epithet “Viśālā.”
By praising Māgha as a time that amplifies spiritual “fruit,” the verse supports the bhakti idea that worship, vows, and sacred practices performed in auspicious periods become especially efficacious and joy-giving to all.
It implicitly draws on Jyotiṣa/kalā (sacred time-keeping): identifying Māgha as a spiritually powerful kāla (time-period) guides when to undertake vratas, tīrtha-bathing, and other dharmic observances for enhanced results.
