Puruṣottama-kṣetra Māhātmya: Śveta-Mādhava & Matsya-Mādhava; Mārkaṇḍeya-tīrtha Mārjana and Bath Liturgy
bhaktyā tu tanmanā bhūtvā purāṇaṃ puṇyamuktidam | mārkaṃḍeyahrade snānaṃ sarvakālaṃ praśasyate || 21 ||
Narada (teaching in Uttara-Bhaga tirtha-mahatmya context)
Vrata: none
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It presents a tirtha-practice (bathing at Mārkaṇḍeya-hrada) as a timelessly recommended act, framed within devotion and single-pointed remembrance, yielding both merit (puṇya) and liberation-oriented benefit (mukti).
Bhakti is defined here as becoming tanmanā—mentally absorbed in the Divine—so that outward acts like tirtha-snāna become spiritually potent and aligned with mokṣa.
Ritual practice (karma-kāṇḍa application) is implied via snāna-vidhi at a tirtha; while no specific Vedāṅga is named, the verse reflects dharma-śāstric orientation to tīrtha-kriyā and its prescribed fruits.
