FAQs

It teaches the extraordinary salvific power (tīrtha-phala) of the Gaṅgā: even post-death contact of one’s bones with Gaṅgā-water is said to yield the same merit as dying in the Gaṅgā itself.

By glorifying Gaṅgā as a supremely purifying tīrtha, the verse supports bhakti-oriented practice through sacred association—honoring what is connected to Viṣṇu-centered dharma (tīrtha-sevā, śraddhā, and reverent rites) as a means to spiritual uplift.

Ritual timing and procedure in antyeṣṭi/śrāddha practice are implied—specifically the customary period of ten days (daśāha) and the rite of asthi-saṅgraha/visarjana (collecting and immersing bones/ashes) connected with dharma-śāstric observance.
