The Greatness of the Month of Māgha
Māgha-snāna, Harivāsara, and the Kāṣṭhīlā-Upākhyāna
paścācca pāraṇaṃ kuryāddvijānbhojya suhṛdvṛtaḥ | evaṃ kṛte varārohe na bhūyo jāyate kvacit || 42 ||
Narada
Vrata: Dvādaśī (implied by immediate context of the passage)
Primary Rasa: bhakti
Secondary Rasa: shanta
It teaches that a vow becomes spiritually complete only with pāraṇa and brāhmaṇa-feeding; when performed with proper intent and procedure, the rite is said to culminate in mokṣa—freedom from repeated birth.
By emphasizing a disciplined devotional vow (vrata) completed with respectful service (bhojana) to dvijas, it frames bhakti as worship expressed through correct observance, gratitude, and charitable hospitality.
Kalpa (ritual procedure) is implied: the correct sequencing of a vrata—concluding with pāraṇa and prescribed feeding—showing how ritual completion is essential to the intended spiritual fruit.
