The verse establishes that profound discernment (amita-buddhi) is not restricted to social rank or even species; the Purāṇic frame legitimizes the birds as authoritative teachers of dharma and right conduct.
Primarily belongs to Vaṁśa/Vaṁśānucarita (genealogy and lineage-linked narrative), since it identifies the progeny of Maṇḍapāla and sets up their role in the unfolding discourse.
The ‘four’ wise birds can be read as a didactic device: multiple voices of discernment that together transmit dharma. Their being ‘twice-born’-addressed (dvijasattama) underscores that true wisdom must withstand scrutiny by the learned and is not merely conventional authority.
