अध्याय २०८ — इन्द्रियनिग्रहः, सत्याहिंसात्मकवाक्, कर्मफलविवेकः
Restraint of the Senses, Non-harming Truthful Speech, and Discernment of Karmic Consequence
जमदमन्निश्व सप्तैते उदीचीमाश्रिता दिशम् | आत्रेय, वसिष्ठ, महर्षि कश्यप, गौतम, भरद्वाज, कुशिकवंशी विश्वामित्र तथा महात्मा ऋचीकके पुत्र भगवान् जमदग्नि--ये सात उत्तर दिशामें रहते हैं ।।
jamadagnir eva saptaite udīcīm āśritā diśam | ātreyo vasiṣṭho maharṣiḥ kaśyapo gautamo bharadvājaḥ | kuśikavaṃśī viśvāmitras tathā mahātmā ṛcīkasya putro bhagavān jamadagniḥ—ime sapta uttaradiśi nivasantīti || ete pratidīśaṃ sarve kīrtitās tigmatejasaḥ | lokasṛṣṭisamarthāś ca sarvasākṣiṇa eva ca | vipulahṛdayāś caite pratidikṣu vyavasthitāḥ ||
ಭೀಷ್ಮನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಈ ಏಳು ಮಂದಿ—ಜಮದಗ್ನಿ ಮೊದಲಾದವರು—ಉತ್ತರ ದಿಕ್ಕನ್ನು ಆಶ್ರಯಿಸಿ ಸ್ಥಿತರಾಗಿದ್ದಾರೆ: ಆತ್ರೇಯ, ವಸಿಷ್ಠ, ಮಹರ್ಷಿ ಕಶ್ಯಪ, ಗೌತಮ, ಭರದ್ವಾಜ, ಕುಶಿಕ ವಂಶೀಯ ವಿಶ್ವಾಮಿತ್ರ ಮತ್ತು ಮಹಾತ್ಮ ಋಚೀಕನ ಪುತ್ರನಾದ ಭಗವಾನ್ ಜಮದಗ್ನಿ. ಹೀಗೆ ಪ್ರತಿದಿಕ್ಕಿನಲ್ಲಿರುವ ತೀಕ್ಷ್ಣ ತೇಜಸ್ಸಿನ ಮಹರ್ಷಿಗಳೆಲ್ಲರೂ ಕೀರ್ತಿಸಲ್ಪಟ್ಟರು.
