Educational Q&A

Even amid warfare, true nobility is marked by inner discipline (dānta), compassion toward the faithful (bhaktānukampin), and refusal to adopt ignoble means (na nīcānusāriṇam). Valor is presented as inseparable from ethical restraint.

Sañjaya is describing a prominent warrior’s qualities to Dhṛtarāṣṭra, highlighting both martial signs (mighty arms, long banner, vigorous eyes) and moral character (compassion, self-control, not following base conduct) as part of the ongoing account in Droṇa Parva.
