सर्वगः सर्वविद्धानुर्विष्वक्सेनो जनार्दन: । वेदो वेदविदव्यज्जी वेदाड़ो वेदवित्‌ कवि:

sarvagaḥ sarvavid dhānur viṣvakseno janārdanaḥ | vedo vedavid avyajī vedāṅgo vedavit kaviḥ ||

ಭೀಷ್ಮನು ಹೇಳಿದರು—ಅವನು ಸರ್ವಗ—ಕಾರಣರೂಪದಿಂದ ಎಲ್ಲೆಡೆ ವ್ಯಾಪ್ತ; ಸರ್ವವಿತ್ ಧಾನು—ಎಲ್ಲವನ್ನೂ ತಿಳಿದಿರುವ ಪ್ರಕಾಶಸ್ವರೂಪ; ವಿಷ್ವಕ್ಸೇನ—ಶತ್ರುಸೇನೆಯನ್ನು ಚದುರಿಸುವವನು; ಮತ್ತು ಜನಾರ್ದನ—ಭಕ್ತರು ಅಭ್ಯುದಯವೂ ನಿಃಶ್ರೇಯಸವೂ ಬೇಡಿ ಮೊರೆಯಿಡುವವನು. ಅವನೇ ವೇದ; ವೇದವಿತ್—ವೇದ ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ಅರ್ಥವನ್ನು ಯಥಾರ್ಥವಾಗಿ ತಿಳಿದವನು; ಅವ್ಯಂಗ್ಯ—ಸರ್ವಾಂಗಪೂರ್ಣ, ಯಾವ ರೀತಿಯಲ್ಲೂ ಅಪೂರ್ಣನಲ್ಲ; ವೇದಾಂಗ—ವೇದಗಳು ಅವನ ಅಂಗಗಳು; ವೇದವಿತ್—ವೇದವಿಚಾರಕ; ಮತ್ತು ಕವಿ—ಸರ್ವಜ್ಞ ದ್ರಷ್ಟಾ.
