विश्रान्तेडथ गुरौ तस्मिन् पौत्रानादाय कौरवान् | शिष्यत्वेन ददौ भीष्मो वसूनि विविधानि च
viśrānte 'tha gurau tasmin pautrān ādāya kauravān | śiṣyatvena dadau bhīṣmo vasūni vividhāni ca ||
ವೈಶಂಪಾಯನನು ಹೇಳಿದನು—ಆ ಗುರು ವಿಶ್ರಾಂತಿ ಪಡೆದ ಬಳಿಕ, ಪರಾಕ್ರಮಶಾಲಿ ಭೀಷ್ಮನು ಕೌರವ ವಂಶದ ಮೊಮ್ಮಕ್ಕಳನ್ನು ಕರೆದುಕೊಂಡು ಅವರನ್ನು ಶಿಷ್ಯರূপದಲ್ಲಿ ಆಚಾರ್ಯನಿಗೆ ಒಪ್ಪಿಸಿ, ನಾನಾವಿಧವಾದ ಧನವನ್ನೂ ಅರ್ಪಿಸಿದನು।
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights dharma in education: a guardian must place heirs under a competent teacher and honor the guru with appropriate gifts, expressing gratitude and ensuring disciplined training.
After the preceptor has rested, Bhīṣma takes the Kuru princes (the grandsons/descendants of the Kuru line) and formally hands them over to the guru as disciples, additionally offering various forms of wealth as honorarium.
