Adhyāya 379 — अद्वैतब्रह्मविज्ञानम्
Advaita-brahma-vijñāna
piṇḍaḥ pṛthag yataḥ puṃsaḥ śiraḥpāyvādilakṣaṇaḥ tato 'hamiti kutraitāṃ saṃjñāṃ rājan karomyahaṃ
Lord Agni (instructing a kingly interlocutor in self-knowledge)
Primary Rasa: Śānta
Sandhi Resolution Notes:
It imparts ātma-viveka (discriminative inquiry): the method of refusing to locate the ‘I’ in the body’s parts and functions, undermining ego-identification.
Alongside ritual, governance, and other sciences, the Agni Purana also preserves Vedantic self-analysis—showing it is not only a ritual manual but a compendium including philosophical psychology and liberation-teachings.
By weakening identification with the body, it supports detachment and right knowledge, which Purāṇic tradition treats as purifying and conducive to mokṣa-oriented conduct.
