Agni Purana, Chapter 259: Yajur-vidhāna
kanyāyā nikhaneddvāri sānyasmai na pradīyate deva savitaretena juhuyādbalakāmo dvijottama
Lord Agni (instructing the sage Vasiṣṭha in ritual procedure)
Primary Rasa: shanta
Secondary Rasa: adbhuta
Type: Household
Sandhi Resolution Notes: nikhaneddvāri→nikhanet+dvāri; savitaretena→savitar+etena; juhuyādbalakāmo→juhuyāt+bala-kāmaḥ; dvijottama→dvija-uttama.
It gives a prayoga: burying a ritual item at the threshold for a maiden to prevent her being given to another, and performing a Savitṛ-homa using the specified mantra/means for gaining bodily strength (bala).
Alongside theology, the Agni Purana preserves practical domestic-ritual instructions—marriage-related remedies and specific homa applications—showing its coverage of lived religious practice and household rites.
By invoking Savitṛ through oblations, the act aligns personal aims (strength and auspicious marital outcome) with Vedic divine order, seeking siddhi through sanctioned fire-ritual rather than purely worldly effort.
