इत्य् आग्नेये महापुराणे काव्यगुणविवेको नाम पञ्चचत्वारिंशदधिकत्रिशततमो ऽध्यायः अथ षट्चत्वारिंशदधिकत्रिशततमो ऽध्यायः काव्यदोषविवेकः अग्निर् उवाच उद्वेगजनको दोषः सभ्यानां स च सप्तधा वक्तृवाचकवाच्यानामेकद्वित्रिनियोगतः

ಇಂತೆ ಅಗ್ನಿ ಮಹಾಪುರಾಣದಲ್ಲಿ “ಕಾವ್ಯಗುಣವಿವೇಕ” ಎಂಬ ೩೪೫ನೇ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯವು ಸಮಾಪ್ತವಾಯಿತು. ಈಗ ೩೪೬ನೇ ಅಧ್ಯಾಯ “ಕಾವ್ಯದೋಷವಿವೇಕ” ಆರಂಭವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಅಗ್ನಿ ಹೇಳಿದರು—ಸಭ್ಯ ರಸಿಕರಲ್ಲಿ ಉದ್ವೇಗ/ರಸಭಂಗ ಉಂಟುಮಾಡುವುದೇ ದೋಷ; ಮತ್ತು ವಕ್ತೃ, ವಾಚಕ (ಶಬ್ದಪ್ರಯೋಗ), ವಾಚ್ಯ (ಅರ್ಥ) ಇವುಗಳ ಏಕ, ದ್ವಿ ಅಥವಾ ತ್ರಿ ಅಯೋಗ್ಯ ನಿಯೋಗದಿಂದ ಅದು ಏಳು ವಿಧವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
