मौने तु तूष्णीं तूष्णीकं सद्यः सपदि तत्क्षणे दिष्ट्या शमुपयोषञ्चेत्यानन्दे ऽथान्तरे ऽन्तरा

ಮೌನವ್ರತದಲ್ಲಿ ‘ತೂಷ್ಣೀಂ’ ‘ತೂಷ್ಣೀಕಂ’ ಎಂದರೆ ಸಂಪೂರ್ಣ ನಿಶ್ಶಬ್ದತೆ. ‘ಸದ್ಯಃ’, ‘ಸಪದಿ’, ‘ತತ್ಕ್ಷಣೆ’ ಎಂಬವು ‘ತಕ್ಷಣ’ ಅರ್ಥದವು. ‘ದಿಷ್ಟ್ಯಾ’ ಎಂದರೆ ‘ಸೌಭಾಗ್ಯದಿಂದ’; ‘ಶಮ್’ ಮತ್ತು ‘ಉಪಯೋಷನ್’ ಶಾಂತಿ ಹಾಗೂ ಮನೋನಿಗ್ರಹವನ್ನು ಸೂಚಿಸಿ, ಅದರಿಂದ ಆನಂದ ಉಂಟಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ‘ಅಂತರೇ’ ‘ಅಂತರಾ’ ಎಂದರೆ ‘ಒಳಗೆ/ಮಧ್ಯದಲ್ಲಿ’.
