Chapter 280 — रसादिलक्षणम् / सर्वरोगहराण्यौषधानि
Characteristics of Taste and Related Factors; Medicines that Remove All Diseases
vīryapāke viparyaste prabhāvāttatra niś cayaḥ madhuro 'pi kaṭuḥ pāke yacca kṣaudraṃ prakīrtitaṃ

Dosha: Tridosha
Concept: Higher-order determinants resolve apparent contradictions: prabhāva can supersede general rules of correlation.
Application: When rules conflict with observed outcomes, elevate the explanatory principle that best predicts results; keep exception-cases as authoritative exemplars.

It teaches an Ayurvedic diagnostic rule in dravya-guṇa: when vipāka and vīrya appear contrary to what is expected, prabhāva (specific action) is used to determine the drug’s true effect—illustrated by honey having sweet taste but pungent vipāka.
By preserving a technical Ayurvedic framework (rasa–vīrya–vipāka–prabhāva) and a standard example (honey), the Agni Purana functions as a compendium that includes medical science alongside its ritual, cosmological, and dharma materials.
It emphasizes discerning right knowledge (yathārtha-jñāna) in practical life—using correct principles to choose and apply substances wisely—supporting health, clarity, and disciplined living aligned with dharma.
