Related Themes: Agni Purāṇa 36 (rakṣā, pavitra, upavīta handling within pūjā-vidhi)
It gives a procedural rule in puja/dīkṣā: place/offer the pavitra (ritual purificatory ring), remove the rakṣā-bandhana (protective tie), and then formally take up the brahma-sūtra (yajnopavīta) as prescribed.
Alongside theology, the Agni Purana functions as a practical ritual handbook: this verse preserves step-by-step liturgical sequencing (what to remove, what to don, and in what order) for widely used domestic/temple observances.
Removing the temporary protective binding and accepting the brahma-sūtra marks a transition from a situational protection rite to an enduring marker of ritual eligibility and purity, reinforcing dharmic discipline and sanctification of the practitioner.
