FAQs

This verse transmits vamśa-vidyā (genealogical knowledge): the precise succession of royal descendants, used to preserve Purāṇic historical memory and the legitimacy of dharmic kingship.

By cataloging dynastic lineages alongside ritual, polity, and other sciences, the Agni Purāṇa functions as a reference compendium—here preserving names, descent-relations, and the continuity of rulership central to Purāṇic historiography.

Remembering and reciting righteous lineages is traditionally treated as puṇya-generating (merit-bearing), reinforcing dharma through exemplars of kingship and situating individual conduct within an inherited moral order.
