Lord Shiva (instructing Umā/Parvati in the Umāsaṃhitā discourse)
Tattva Level: pasha
Shiva Form: Paśupatinātha
The verse teaches that satya (truthfulness) is a universal dharma that harmonizes all realms of existence; in Shaiva thought, truth aligns the individual (paśu) with Shiva (Pati), loosening the bonds (pāśa) created by deceit and agitation.
Linga worship emphasizes inner purity and integrity; practicing satya makes one’s mantra, offering, and vow effective, pleasing Saguna Shiva and supporting steady devotion that can mature toward realization of Shiva beyond qualities (Nirguna).
Adopt a satya-vrata (vow of truth) alongside daily Shiva practices—japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), wearing vibhūti (Tripuṇḍra) with pure intent, and offering water with truthful speech and a calm mind.
