Viṣṇu’s Hymn and the Petition for Śiva–Satī’s Protection
hāhākāro mahānāsīdaudāsīnyaṃ ca sarvaśaḥ | abhūvambikalo'tīva tadāhaṃ tadvimohakaḥ
Suta Goswami (narrating the Sati-Khanda events to the sages)
Tattva Level: pashu
It portrays the overwhelming shock that follows adharma and separation from the Divine, reminding devotees that even intense grief becomes a doorway to deeper vairagya (dispassion) and reliance on Shiva as Pati, the liberating Lord.
In the Sati narrative, collective lamentation and inner bewilderment drive the mind to seek a stable refuge; Shaiva tradition points to Saguna Shiva—especially Linga-worship—as the steady, compassionate focus when worldly supports collapse.
When the mind is shaken, steady japa of the Panchakshara mantra ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya") with vibhūti (Tripuṇḍra) and calm breath-awareness is the practical takeaway for restoring remembrance of Shiva.
