Daily adoration of Agni as sacrificial power (ojas) and foe-crusher, approached with reverence at the two sandhyās
Agni
Bright energetic and devotional—suited to kindling and confident petition
The dashati explicitly invokes Bhṛgu-line precedent (aurvabhṛguvat) presenting Agni-worship as an inherited primeval pattern; precise ṛṣi assignment is recension/anukramaṇī-dependent.
Applicable as an Agni-invocation set within Soma liturgy especially where the chant supports kindling and forward movement of the offering; exact placement depends on śākhā and gāna arrangement.
Mantra 1
Adoration be unto thee, O Agni, for thy vigour; the people, O god, celebrate thee with their energies: crush thou the foe.
Mantra 2
Agni, the messenger for you, the all-knowing, the bearer of oblations, the immortal, the most worthy of worship,—thou art adorned by our hymn.
Mantra 3
Near unto thee the kindred dames, with hymns resplendent, the preparers of the oblation, have taken their station in the presence of Vāyu.
Mantra 4
Agni, day by day, night and morning, we approach thee with devout purpose, bearing reverence (as our offering).
Mantra 5
Awakener of the aged, know thou well that (our intent); for every tribe, present the sacrificial hymn of praise to Rudra, the manifest (deity) who is worthy of worship.
Mantra 6
In regard of that fair sacrificial service, for our guardianship thou art solemnly invoked; do thou, Agni, come hither with the Maruts.
Mantra 7
As (men extol) a richly-caparisoned steed, so would I, with reverential homage, celebrate Agni, the sovereign ruler of sacrifices.
Mantra 8
As Aurva and the Bhṛgus (of old), and as one desirous of attainment, I invoke hither Agni, the pure, who abideth in the samudra.
Mantra 9
Let the mortal, kindling Agni with his mind and with devout intelligence, be attentive; he kindles Agni with radiant (flaming) appliances (of the sacrifice).
Mantra 10
Then do they behold the light of the ancient seed, even the daylight; when, kindled aloft, it blazes in the heaven.
It centers on approaching Agni every day—night and morning—with reverence, praising his sacrificial strength (ojas) and asking him to purify the offering and overcome hostile forces.
It appeals to ancient ṛṣi precedent: as the early Bhṛgu-line seers established and invoked Agni, the singer invokes Agni in the same authoritative, tradition-backed way.
As a Sāman set addressed to Agni, it supports kindling and steady worship within the broader sacrifice; it is especially fitting for repeated daily approach themes and preparatory invocations in Soma services.
